Zoo with Excavator Clay 9 kg is a substrate for terrarium that allows reptiles to dig tunnels and holes just as they do in nature. You can shape and create terraces and holes in several levels in the terrarium. Excavator retains the mold so holes and tunnels do not collapse. The bottom substrate is completely natural and has no added dyes or chemicals.

Instructions:

  • Make sure you have enough excavator to achieve the desired depth in the terrarium.
  • Soak the substrate in a bucket by adding 35 ml of water per 2.25 kgs bag of excavator. Mix thoroughly to a smooth texture. Place the wet substrate in the terrarium and form hills, terraces, etc. Use regular household objects such as water bottles and balloons to create holes, creeps and tunnels. When the desired landscape is reached, flatten to the substrate while it is moist.
  • Allow it to dry during the night before removing the objects you used to create holes and tunnels.
  • The reptiles can be let into the terrarium when the substrate is partially dry or at least dry on the surface. The drying time depends on the ambient temperature. Many reptile species will continue to dig to create a truly natural environment. If your reptiles are excavators of nature, you can let them do all the work of digging their own holes and tunnels. They may need some time to adapt to their new environment before they start digging in the substrate.
  • To occasionally spray water can help the substrate to keep the shape, it also helps to achieve the desired moisture in the terrarium.
  • To change the form of the landscape, remove the reptiles. Add water, mix and shape the substrate to the desired shape. If the substrate is too hard to mix, allow the water to sink properly first.

Cleaning:

  • The substrate should be completely clean. If it gets heavily soiled or starts to smell bad, it should be replaced.
  • Do not rinse the substrate under running water, as the clay disappears and the substrate cannot be shaped.

Warning:

  • Should not be used with heaters under the terrarium (thick and/or dense substrate can cause excess heat to collect).
  • Avoid getting wet excavator on clothing or other objects, there may be stains.
  • Place the reptiles' food in a bowl to avoid them happening to get substrate which can cause constipation.
